Basilashvili, Aliassime, Paire & Fritz reach SFs of ATP Lyon Open

Patna : World No 18 Nikoloz Basilashvili, Georgia, and World No 28 Felix Augur-Aliassime, Canada, World No 46 Taylor Fritz, USA, and World No 51 Benoit Paire, France, advanced to the semi-finals of ATP Lyon Open, Lyon, France, on May 23, 2019, night.

Basilashvili beat World No 85 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 34, France, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Tsonga, who had reached Australian Open final in 2008 besides reaching Wimbledon semi-finals in 2011 and 2012, fired 9 Aces in the match to just 1 by Basilashvili. Basilashvili broke Tsonga’s serve 3 times in the match while the latter broke his service only once.

Aliassime beat World No 59 Steve Johnson, USA, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the QFs. Aliassime hammered 11 Ac es in the match to just 2 by Johnson. Both the players won 3 break points each in the match. Aliassime though won 5 games in a row to 3 by Johnson. Aliassime will face Basilashvili in the SFs at 7.20 pm on May 24, 2019.

Taylor Fritz upset 21 Roberto Bautistta Agut, Spain, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the QFs. Fritz hammered 16 Aces in the match to 7 by Agut. Fritz broke Agut’s service twice in the match besides winning 3 games in a row.

Paire upset World No  23 Denis Shapovalov, Canada, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 in the QFs. Paire fired 6 Aces in the match to just 1 by Shapovalov. Paire broke Shapo valov’s service twice I n the match while latter broke his service once. Both the players won 3 games each in a row. Paire will face Fritz in the semi-finals at 6 pm on May 24, 2019.
