Patna : Bangladesh beat South Africa (SA) by 21 runs in the 5th match of ICC World Cup at Kennington Oval, London, UK, in a major upset in the tournament. Replying to Bangladesh’s 330/6 in 50 overs, South Africa could score only 309/8 in 5o overs. SA had won the toss but opted to bowl. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was declared Player of the Match.

Batting first, Bangaladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar added 60 runs for the first wicket. Iqbal fell to Andile Phehlukwayo for 16 while Soumya Sarkar fell to Chris Morris for 42 in 30 balls with 9 fours making it 75/2. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim (wk) added 142 runs for the third wicket. Shakib fell to spinner Imran Tahir for 75 in 84 balls with 8 fours and a six and it was 217/3.

Mohammad Mithun also fell to Tahir for 21and it was 242/4. Mushfiqur Rahim fell to Phehlukwayo for 78 in 80 balls with 8 fours. Mosadiq Hussain fell to Chris Morris for 26 in 20 balls with 4 fours and it was 316/6. Mahmudullah remained unbeaten on 46 in 33 balls with 3 fours and a six.

SA made a solid start with openers Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram adding 49 runs for the first wicket. Kock was run out for 23. The second South African wicket fell when Markram fell to Shakib Al Hasan for 45 with 4 fours and it was 102/2. Captain Faf du Plessis scored 62 in 53 balls with 5 fours and a six while David Miller made 38 in 43 balls with 2 fours. Rassie van der Dussen fell Mohammad aifuddin for 41 in 38 balls with 2 fours and a six while Jean-Paul Duminy fell Mustfizur Rahman for 45 in 37 balls with 4 fours.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman took 3/67 in 19 overs while Mohammad Saifuddin took 2/57 in 8 overs.
