Bagaha : Sugarcane growers, who had supplied sugarcane to Tirupati Sugars Mill, Bagaha, will get partial payment at the rate of Rs 200 per quintal for their sugarcane supplied to the factory till November 15, 2018. This was announced by SDM, Bagaha, Ghanshyam Meena, on December 26, 2018. The payment would start from December 27, 2018, the SDM announced after commitment given by Tirupati Sugars Mill, Bagaha, General Manager (Sugarcane), Bhuvaneshvar Nath Tripathi at SDM chamber the same day.

Sources said the Tirupati Sugars Mill had purchased about 9 lakh quintals of sugarcane from the farmers till November 15, 2018, worth about Rs 18 crore.

Bagaha sugarcane farmers are agitating over delay in payment of sugarcane price. The sugar factory, on the ground of non- announcement of sugarcane price by Bihar Government for current crushing season, was not ready to pay sugarcane price to the farmers. The sugarcane farmers of Bagaha had threatened to support CPI (ML)’s  Champaran Bandh on December 27, 2018.27 on the issue. But, just a day before Champaran Bandh, the partial payment of Sugarcane was announced apparently to flop it, alleged Birendra Gupta, Member, Central Committee, CPI(ML) on December 26.

Meanwhile, Convenor of Progressive Sugarcane Farmers Front Nendesh Pandey claimed the factory has purchased over 37 lakh quintals of sugarcane worth Rs 114 crore from the farmers till date. The farmers had been spent Rs 23 crore to reach sugarcane to the Tirupati Sugars factory, he said adding the partial payment of sugarcane purchased till November 15, 2018, will prove to be just a drop in the ocean for the farmers.
