Patna : Babita Kumari Phogat, 28, India, daughter of famous wrester and coach Mahavir Singh Phogat, won silver medal in women’s 53 kg freestyle wrestling at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (CWG) on April 12, 2018. She lost to Canada’s Carissa Holland in the final. Babita had won gold medal at 2014 Glasgow CWG in 55 kg category and silver in 51 kg category at 2010 Delhi CWG.
Babita, who hails from village Balaji in Bhiwani district in Harynaa, is sister of Geeta Phogat, 29, India’s first women gold medal winner in 55 kg wrestling category at 2010 Delhi CWG. Her younger sisters Ritu Phogat and Sangita Phogat are also top wrestlers. Babita’s cousin Vinesh Phogat had won gold medal in wrestling at 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
