Patna : Australia crushed Pakistan by an innings and five runs on Day 4 in the first test at The Gabba, Brisbane, Australia, on November 24, 2019, with fast bowler Josh Hazlewood taking 4/63 in 21 overs and fellow fast bowler Mitchell Starc taking 3/73 in 16.2 overs. Pat Cummins took 2/69 in 21 overs while spinner Nathan Lyon took 1/74 in 21 overs. It was Pakistan’s 13th straight loss in Australia.

Marnus Labuschagne was declared Player of the Match for scoring 185 in Australia’s first innings. Australia had scored 580 in their first innings while Pakistan were all out for 240 in their first innings. Pakistan had won the toss and opted to bat.

Pakistan, trailing by 340 runs, were all out for 335 runs in 84.2 overs in their second innings with Babar Azam scoring 104 in 173 balls with 13 fours, his 2nd test ton in test, and Mohammad Rizwan (wk) scoring 95 in 145 balls with 10 fours, his first test fifty, . Babar Azam fell to Nathan Lyon while Rizwan fell to Josh Hazlewood.

Resuming at their overnight score of 64/3, Pakistan lost their 4th wicket that of opener Shan Masood 93. Masood fell to Pat Cummins for 42 in 81 balls with 4 fours making it 93/4. Iftikhar Ahmed fell to Hazlewood for a duck and it was 94/5. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan then added 132 runs for the 6th wicket. Babar departed when the score was 226 making it 226/6. Rizwan fell to Hazlewood for 95 making it 305/7. Spinner Yasir Shar fell to Hazlewood for 42 in 55 balls with 6 fours making it 324/8. Shaheen Afridi fell to Hazlewood for 10 and it was 331/9. Imran Khan fell to Starc for 5.
