Patna : Australia were 103/2 at stumps on Day 3 in their second innings in 3rd test against India at Sydney Cricket Grpound, Sysdney, Australia, on January 9, 2021, with Marnus Labuschagne unbeaten on 47 in 69 balls with 6 fours while Steven Smith,  who had scored 131 in first innings, unbeaten on 29 in 63 balls with 3 fours. Australia lead by 197 runs.

Labuschagne and Smith have so far  added 68 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 3rd wicket. Opener Will Pucovski, who had scored 62 in first innings, fell to medium fast bowler Mohd Siraj for 10 making it 16/1. His opening David Warner, who had scored 5 in the first innings, fell lbw to spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 13 making it 35/1.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 96/2, India were all out in the second session of play on Day 3 for 244 in 100.4 overs in their first innings with Cheteshwar Pujara scoring 50 in 176 balls with 5 fours while captain Ajinkya Rahane fell to Pat Cummins for 22 in 70 balls hitting 1 four and 1 six.

Rishabh Pant (wk) scored 36 runs in 67 balls with 4 fours but was also injured while batting. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 28 in 37 balls with 5 fours. Three Indian batsmen : Hanuma Vihari (4), Ravichandran Ashwin (10), and Jasprit Bumrah (0) were run out.

For Australia, Pat Cummins took 4/29 in 21.4 overs while Josh Hazlewood took 2/43 in 21 overs. Mitchell Starc took 1/61 in 19 overs.
