Ara : The Mukhya Mantri Kanya Vivah Yojana (MMKVY) is virtually inoperative under Udwantnagar block in Bhojpur district for the last four years. Block Development Officer (BDO), Udwantnagar block, Mohammad Sikkandar said that 997 applications under MMKVY were pending disposal at the block office as no fund under this head has been sanctioned since 2013. He said that the applicants were visiting his office daily but return disappointed.

The BDO said that Rs 5,000 was to be given to an applicant under BPL category after the marriage his daughter  earlier but now the amount been increased to Rs 10,000. He said that husband and wife have to submit an affidavit in the office of the Circle Officer (CO) concerned declaring that they had neither taken nor given dowry in any form. They also have to get their marriage registered before the Mukhia of the panchayat. He said that the government had released fund for just 80 beneficiaries and he will distribute the same among them at the earliest after verification.
