Patna : World No 31 Sameer Verma, 26, India, lost to 3rd seed Anders Antonsen, 23, Denmark, in a see-saw battle in quarter-finals of Toyota Thailand Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 Badminton tournament, at Bangkok, Thailalnd, on January 22, 2021. Antonsen beat Sameer 21-13, 19-21, 22-20 in 81 minutes to enter the semi-finals of the tournament.

Antonsen won the first game comfortably in 21 minutes. But, Sameer put up up a tough fight in the next two games winning the second game but narrowly losing the third game. Antonsen won 62 rallies in the match to 54 by Sameer. The Dane won 5 consecutive points in the match to 4 by the Indian. Antonsen now leads Sameer 4-1 Head to Head.

Second seed Chou Tien Chen, 31, Taiwan, also entered the semi-finals of the tournament defeating compatriot Wang Tzu Eei, 25, in straight games 21-16, 21-16 in 52 minutes in QFs. Chen won 42 rallies in the match to 32 by Wang. He won 6 consecutive points during the match to 3 by Wang. Chen now leads 8-0 Head to Head.
