Patna : World No 25 Roberto Bautista Agut, 30, Spain, stunned World No 1 and winner of 15 Grand Slam singles titles Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, in a three-set thriller in the Round of 16 of Miami Open also known as Miami Masters at Florida, USA, on March 27, 2019, to advance to the quarter-finals (QFs) of the tournament.
Agut beat Djokovic 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 in 2hr 29 minutes in the 4th round at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida, USA, dashing the latter’s bid to win the 7th Miami Open singles title. Djokovic was all over Agut in the first set easily winning it 6-1 but thereafter his game disintegrated and he lost the next two sets. Djokovic had a break point at 5-5 in the second set but failed to convert it.
Both Djokovic and Agut won 4 break points each in the match. Djokovic fired 5 Aces in the match to just 1 by Agut. He also won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Agut. Djokovic committed 4 double faults to 3 by Agut. Agut, however, won 54 service points to 50 by Djokovic. Djokovic has lost to Agut twice this season. But, he still leads Agut 7-3 head to head.
Djokovic had also lost to World No 42 Philip Kohlschreiber, 35, Germany, in the 3rd round of ATP Indian Wells Masters in straight sets on March 12, 2019. Djokovic had lost his opening round matches at both Indian Wells and Miami Open in 2018.
