Saharsa : Goons of land mafia on January 2 night attacked cops of Sadar police station, Saharsa, and looted a police rifle and dozens of live cartridges at village Kahra and escaped. Six police personnel including two SIs of Sadar police station were injured in the attack.
The police team led by SIs Surendra Yadav and Kamlesh Singh had gone to Kahra with force to arrest criminals involved in land related violence. As soon as they reached the house of Subhak Ram more than three dozen criminals attacked police team forcing the cops to make a hasty retreat. They requisitioned additional force from Sadar police station.
When the force reached there, they again reached the house of Subhak Ram and tried to arrest him but this time criminals attacked them with sticks and iron rods. Criminals snatched a rifle and 25 live cartridges from a Homeguards jawan Kumod Jha by attacking him from behind with rods. SI Surendra Yadav saved himself by hiding in an adjoining house and informed district police control room at Saharsa about the development. After that cops from different police stations reached there and rescued SI Yadav and others.
SDPO Subodh Kumar Biswas sent all the injured cops to Saharsa Sadar hospital. He camped there to bring the situation under control. The SDPO said that the looted rifle had been recovered but live cartridges were yet to be recovered. Three cases of land dispute against were lodged against Subhak Ram in 2016. Police arrested Subhak’s mother Badami Devi, his brother Santosh Ram, and one Ranjay Kumar Sah in this connection while Sanoj Yadav was interrogation.
