Patna : Three -time former Bihar Chief Minister Dr Jagannath Mishra, 82, died on August 19, 2019, following a prolonged illness. Mishra, who was also a former Union Minister, had been suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment at the national capital, where he breathed his last on August 19, 2019, morning, said family sources. Bihar Governor Fagu Chauhan and CM Nitish Kumar mourned Mishra.

Condoling his demise, CM Nitish Kumar announced a three-day state mourning. Nitish described Mishra as an acclaimed political leader and educationist. His death has caused an irreparable loss not just to Bihar but the entire country, said Nitish.

Governor Fagu Chauhan also condoled the death of Mishra and recalled his contributions as a three-time chief Minister and as a Union minister. The Governor described Mishra as an able administrator and economist. He said the country particularly Bihar had suffered an irreparable loss due to his death.

Mishra is survived by his three sons. One of his sons Nitish Mishra is a former Bihar Cabinet Minister and is at present State BJP vice-president while his eldest son Sanjeev Mishra is a Joint Secretary rank officer, Government of India. Mishra’s wife Veena Mishra had died several months back. Dr Jagannath Msihra was the youngest brother of former Railways Minister Lalit Narain Mishra.

Bihar Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shravan Kumar has also mourned Mishra, who became Bihar Chief Minister for the first time in 1975, then in 1980, and the third time for three months in December 1989. Despite being out of power, Mishra had a huge following in the state.
