Halep beats Svitolina to reach final of Wimbledon Championships

Patna : World No 7 Simona Halep, 27, Australia, brushed aside World No 8 Elina Svitolina, 24, Ukraine, in the semi-finals on July 11, 2019, to reach the women’s singles final of Wimbledon Championships for the first time. Halep, the 2018 French Open Champion, demolished 8th seed Svitolina 6-1, 6-3 in the semi-finals at All England Club, London, winning 4 games in a row in the match. Halep has won 18 career titles.

Halep, who had reached Australian Open final in 2018 and US Open SFs in 2015, broke Svitolina’s service 5 times in the match while the latter could break her service just once. Both the players served 1 Ace each in the match. Halep, however, committed three double faults. The Romanian, a former World  No 1, won 39 service points to 25 by Svitolina.
