Siwan: Journalists of Saran division under the aegis of Patrakar Sangh staged a two- hour dharna at J P Chowk, Siwan, on Thursday, urging the centre to initiate CBI probe without any delay into the murder of a local journalist Rajdeo Ranjan. Rajdeo’s wife Aasha Ranjan also participated iat the dharna.

Rajdeo Ranjan, bureau head of a Hindi daily-Hindustan, was gunned down by some criminals at around 7 pm near Fruit Market under Town police station on May 13, 2016, at  Siwan. The incident had rocked the state as the name of former RJD MP Mohd. Shahabuddin had cropped up during investigation by police. A few supporters of former MP had been arrested in this connection and he was transferred to high security Bhagalpur jail from Siwan jail.

In her address, Aasha Ranjan said that she had personally written separate letters to the Prime Minister (PM), Union Home minister and Director, CBI, to initiate probe without any delay in her husband’s murder as the state government had earlier recommended a CBI probe into the killing.

Several journalists including Arvind Pandey, Rakesh Singh and Pramod Ranjan lamented that though the Nitish Kumar government had recommended a CBI probe, the probe agency has not taken any step in that direction. Later, the journalists handed over a memorandum to Siwan DM Mahendra Kumar in this regard.
