Ara : Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC) achieved the target of construction of 3,821 personal lavatories in January  though it was supposed to be completed by March 2017.

Municipal Commissioner, AMC, Pramod Kumar said that after survey it was reported that altogether 10,010 personal lavatories were needed at Ara but only 4,535 people have applied so far for construction of personal lavatories. He said that after verification, the AMC decided to construct 3,821 personal lavatories by the end of March 2017 but the AMC achieved the target in January 2017 itself and Rs 12,000 as incentive per lavatory was also given. The rest will be self constructed phasewise. He said that the AMC had received Rs 1.51 crore so far under Swachchh Bharat Mission and added that the AMC is working to convert the existing lavatories into flash ones with waste management and added Ara town will be declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) very soon.

The Municipal Commissioner said that a beneficiary is given incentive in two instalments with Rs 7,500 given as the first instalment. When the beneficiary gets a ditch dug and submit its photograph, the final installment of Rs 4,500 is given after completion of lavatory. Shekhar Kumar, City Manager, AMC, said that lavatory will be made in every house in Ara town.
