New Delhi : A total of 15,158 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in India in last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,05,42,841 at 8 am on January 16, 2021. In contrast, 16,977 Covid-19 patients were declared cured /discharged in last 24 hours in India taking the tally to 1,01,79,715 on January 16, 2021, exceeding the number of active cases ( 2,11,033) by a huge margin of 99,68,682. The active cases accounted for just 2% of the total cases (1,05,42,841) recorded so far in the country on January 16, 2021, a drop of 1,994 cases in last 24 hours.
Of the 1,05,42,841 cases recorded in India, altogether 1,01,79,715 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate being being 96.56%. The country has tested 18,57,65,491 samples so far including 8,03,090 samples on January 15, 2021, according to Union Health Ministry figure.
The Covid-19 toll increased to 1,52,093 in India on January 16, 2021, with 175 new deaths being recorded in the country in last 24 hours including 45 in Maharashtra, 23 in Kerala, 16 in West Bengal, 15 in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Punjab, 10 in Delhi, 7 in Chhattisgarh, 7 in Haryana, 6 in Uttarakhand, 6 in Madhya Pradesh, 5 in Tamilnadu, 5 in J&K, 3 in Karnataka, 3 in Gujarat,2 in Bihar, 1 in Andhra Pradesh, and 1 in Jharkhand. India had recorded 191 new deaths on January 15, 2021.
