Patna : India were 62/2 in 26 overs in their first innings at stumps on Day 2 in the 4th test against Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane, Australia, on January 16, 2021, with Cheteshwar Pujara unbeaten on 8 in 49 balls and captain Ajinkya Rahane batting on 2 in 19 balls. Opener Shubman Gill fell to fast bowler Pat Cummins for 7 with 1 four making it 11/1. His opening partner and vice-captain Rohit Sharma fell to spinner Nathan Lyon for 44 in 74 balls hitting 6 fours and it was 60/2. Rohit and Pujara added 49 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Australia lead by 307 runs. Play was stopped early due to rain. The final sesssion of play on Day 2 was washed out. Playing his 100th test, Australian spinner Nathan Lyon took the wicket of Rohit Sharma. Lyon described Rohit as a world class player.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 274/5, Australia were all out 369 in 115.2 overs with debutant s T Natarajan (medium fast bowler) and Washington Sundar (off spinner) and Shardul Thakur, playing his 2nd test, taking 3 wickets each while medium fast bowler Mohd Siraj, playing his 3rd test, took 1 wicket.

Captain Tim Paine (wk) fell to medium fast bowler Shardul Thakur for 50 in 104 balls with 6 fours making it 311/6. Paine and all-rounder Cameron Green added 98 runs for the 6th wicket. Green fell to Washington Sundar for 47 in 107 balls with 6 fours making it 213/8. Pat Cummins fell to Thakur for 2 and it was 315/8. Nathan Lyon fell to Sundar for 24 in 22 balls with 4 fours and it was 354/9. Lyon and Mitchell Starc added 39 runs for the 9th wicket. Josh Hazlewood fell Natarajan for 11 and Australia were all out for 369. Starc remained unbeaten on 20 in 35 balls with 1 six.
