Ara : Around 1,338 Homeguards personnel proceeded on mass leave from March 11, 2017, evening demanding equal payment for equal work and also in protest against slashing of their daily allowance despite rising prices. They will remain on strike till March 15, 2017. The Homeguards personnel left their duty from jail to bank and also law and order duty and went on mass leave. Bhojpur SP Kshatranil Singh said their strike would not affect the law and order situation as he has made alternative arrangement to deal with the situation.
With Homeguards on strike, patrolling and traffic management have been adversely affected. District police have been pressed into traffic and patrolling duty. Out of 1,338 Homeguards personnel, about 1,100 were deployed in rural areas, 520 were on law and order duty, 49 personnel in jail duty while 222 personnel were deputed to bank and other duty.
