Saharsa : Residents of Kosi riverine belt (diara) on March 2, 2017, formed a 12 km long human chain to express . their solidarity with those sitting on indefinite fast since February 19, 2017, to demand construction of a Mahasetu over river Kosi at Dhengrahighat in Saharsa district.

The human was formed from Sonmankhi to Dhengrahighat. Hundreds of people on March 2 sat at the venue of indefinite fast started by Babulal Maurya. Thirtyfive women and 16 men are sitting on indefinite fast of which condition of seven is not good and were administered saline drip by incharge of Salkhua primary health centre (PHC) Dr Anil Kmar.

Apart from Babulal Maurya, Ritesh Ranjan, Pravin Anand, Subhash Chandra Joshi, Dinanath Patel, Kailash Paswan, Ram Bharosh Mahto are prominent among those  onindefinite fast. Patel has been leading agitation demanding construction of Mahasetu at Dhengrahighat for the past 24 years and Subhash Joshi for last 14 years.

On the directive of Saharsa DM Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, an Executive Engineer of Road Construction Department Sunil Kumar Manjhi, District Transport Officer, Saharsa, Rajiv Kumar, District Planning Officer Ranvijay Kumar and a junior engineer of Bridge Construction Corporation Rohit Kumar visited of indefinite fast on March 2. The officials said that they had come to undertake survey.
