Patna : World No 3 in TP rankings Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, defeated World No 29 Damir Dzumhur, 26, Bosnia, in a marathon five-set match lasting nearly 4 hours on Philippe Chatrier Court, Roland Garros, Paris, on June 1, 2018, to enter the 4th round of French Open 2018.

Zverev, the Number 2 seed, defeated Dzumhur 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 in the third round  coming back from behind to enter the fourth round at French Open for the first time surviving a major crisis.

Dzumhur had opportunities to win the match in both fourth and fifth sets but failed to take advantage of them. Nevertheless, it was a great competitive match and Dzumhur would be proud of his performance. One of the point witnessed 22 stroke rally between the two players in the match.

Zverev fired 8 aces but also committed 7 double faults compared to 4 by Dzumhur. Dzumhur served only 1 ace. Dzumhur won 8 break points compared to 9 by Zverev. Dzumhur won 5 games in row in the match compared to 3 by Zvrev, who also committed more unforced errors.

But, World No 5 Grigor Dimitrov, 26, Bulgaria, was stunned by World No 35 Fernando Verdasco, 34, Spain, in the third round. The Spanish veteran beat Dimitrov in straight sets 7-6, 6-2, 6-4 on Court 1 to enter the 4th round.

World No 21 Kei Nishikori beat World No 65 Gilles Simon, 33, France, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 on Coort 18 to enter the 4th round on June 1.
