Patna : World No 33 in WTA rankings Mihaela Buzarnescu, Romania, shocked World No 4 Elina Svitolina, 23, Ukraine, in the third round of French Open 2018 in a major upset on Court 1 on June 1, 2018. Buzarnescu beat Svitolina, who had recently won Italian Open for the second consecutive year, 6-3, 7-5.

Buzarnescu, the 31st seed, won 5 break points compared to 2 by Svitolina. She also fired 4 aces compared to 2 by Svitolina, the fourth seed. Buzarnescu, however, committed 3 double faults compared to 1 by Svitolina.
