Patna : Defending champion and 7th seed Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, beat 4th seed Daniil Medvededv, 23, Russia, in straights in Group Andre Agassi match to enter the semi-finals of Nitto ATP Finals, an year end tournament, dashing World No 1 Rafael Nadal’s hope of playing the semi-finals. Nadal would have entered the SF had Medvedev defeated the German. Zverev finished second in Group Andre Agassi. Nadal finished third.
Zverev beat Medvedev 6-4, 7-6 in just 78 minutes winning just 1 break point besides winning 2 games in a row in the match at O2 Arena, London, UK. Zverev now leads Medvedev 5-1 Head to Head. The German won 49 service points to 46 by the Russian. Medvedev fired 10 Aces in the match to 8 by Zverev. Medvedev lost all his three matches in the round robin stage. Incidentally, Nadal, Zverev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, 21, Greece, finished the round robin stage with two wins and one loss each.
Zverev will now face World No 5 Dominic Thiem, 26, Austria, in the second semi-finals while World No 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas will face World No 3 Roger Federer in the first semi-finals at 7.30 pm on November 16, 2019.
