Patna : World No 2 and 4th seed Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, World No 4 Chen Yu Fei, China, and World No 35 Soniia Cheah, Malaysia, advanced to the second round of Daihatsu Yonex Japan Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 badminton tournament, at Musashino Forest Sports Plaza, Tokyo, Japan, on July 24, 2019.

Yamaguchi, who won the Indonesia Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 last week, brushed aside World No 34 Evgeniya Kosetskaya, Russia, 21-9, 21-9 in just 28 minutes in the first round. Yamaguchi won 42 rallies in the match to just 18 by Evgeniya. She won 8 consecutive points during the match to 3 by the Russian. Yamaguchi now leads Evgeniya 2-0 Head to Head.

Second seed Chen Yu Fei beat World No 31 Fitriani Fitriani, Indonesia, 21-5, 21-19 in 32 minutes in the first round. Yu Fei won 42 rallies in the match to 24 by the Indonesian. She now leads Fitriani 6-2 Head to Head.

Soniia Cheah beat World No 22 and 2012 London Olympic Champion Li Xue Rui, 28, China, in a three-game thriller 21-18, 19-21, 21-17 in 53 minutes in the first round. Soniia won 61 rallies in the match to 56 by Li. She won 9 consecutive points in the match to 6 by Li. The two players are now locked 1-1 Head to Head.
