Patna : World No 2 Akane Yamaguchi beat World No 3 Nozomi Okuhara, the 2017 World Champion, in all Japanese final on July 28, 2019, to lift the women’s singles title at Daihatsu Yonex Japan Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event, at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo, Japan. Carolina Marin, Spain, had won the Japan Open women’s singles title in 2018.

Fourth seed Yamaguchi, 22, defeated 3rd seed Okuhara, 24, in straight games 21-13, 21-15 in 46 minutes in the final to bag 11,000 points. Okuhara got 9,350 points. Yamaguchi had won Blibli Indonesia Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 event, at Jakarta, Indonesia, on July 21, 2019, defeating World No 5 P V Sindhu, 24, India.

Yamaguchi won 42 rallies in the match on July 28, 2019, to 28 by Okuhara. She also won 7 consecutive points during the match to 3 by Okuhara. Okuhara, however, still leads Yamagucbhi  11-8 Head to Head.
