World No 95 Lajovic stuns World No 6 del Porto in Madrid Open

Lajovic defeated del Porto, the fourth seed, in a three-set thriller in the third round 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, at La Caga Magica, Madrid, Spain, to enter the quarterfinals of the tournament. del Porto had won ATP Indian Wells Masters 1000 in March 2018 defeating World Number 2 Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland in the final.

World Number 7 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, survived a scare before defeating World Number 35 Borna Coric, 21, Croatia, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, to enter the quarterfinals of the event. World Number 8 Kevin Anderson, 31, South Africa, also entered the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open defeating World Number 28 Philipp Kohlschreiber, 34, Germany, 6-3, 7-6, in the third round.

World Number 43 Denis Shapovalov, 18, Canada, also entered the quarterfinals of the event defeating fellow countryman and World Number 24 Milos Raonic, 27, 6-4, 6-4.

Shapovalov will play Kyle Edmund, UK, in the quarterfinals on May 11 while Lajovic will play Anderson.
