Patna : World No 8 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings KidambiĀ  Srikanth, India, lost to World No 33 Lee Dong Keun, South Korea, in the men’s singles quarter-finals of BWF Japan Open Super 750 tournament on September 14, 2018. Keun beat Srikanth, who was the lone Indian left in the tournament, in a three-set thriller 19-21, 21-16, 21-18 in 79 minutes.

World No Kento Momota, Japan, also advanced to the semi-finals defeating World No 15 Lin Dan, China, 21-8, 21-10 in 43 minutes. World No 26 Khosit Phetpradab, Thailand, beat World No 7 Chen Long, China, 21-19, 24-22 to enter the semi-finals of Japan Open on September 13.

In the women’s section, World No 5 Chen Yufei, China, beat World No 2 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, in a three-set encounter 21-13, 15-21, 21-15 in 68 minutes to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament. World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, Chinese Taipei, and World No 3 P V Sindhu, India, had lost in the second round on September 12, 2018.
