Patna : World No 3 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Akane Yamaguchi, 21, Japan, beat World No 1 and top seed Tai Tzu Ying, 24, Taiwan, in the final on October 28, 2018, night, to win the French Open badminton tournament, a BWF Super 750 event, at Paris, France.

Yamaguchi defeated Ying in a three-set thriller 22-20, 17-21, 21-13 in 68 minutes in the final to lift the women’s singles title at the tournament. Yamaguchi won 60 rallies in the match to 54 by Ying. Both the players won 4 consecutive points each in the match. Ying still leads Yamaguchi 7-6 head to head.

Yamaguchi had won bronze medal at 2018 World Championship at Nanjing, China. Ying had won gold medal at 2018 Asian Games by winning the women’s singles title at Jakarta- Palembang, Indonesia.
