Olympic champion Chen Long wins BWF French Open singles title

Patna : Reigning Olympic champion and World No 5 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Chen Long, 29, China, lifted the men’s singles title at French Open badminton tournament, a Super 750 event, at Paris, France, on October 28, 2018, night.

Chen Long, also a two-time former world champion, beat World No 2 Shi Yuqi, 22, China, in straight games 21-17, 21-19 in 47 minutes in the final to lift the singles title.

Chen Long, who had defeated World No 1 Kento Momota in the semi-finals on October 27, won 42 rallies in the match to 36 by Yuqi. He also won 6 consecutive points to 4 by Yuqi. Long now leads Yuqi 5-2 head to head. Yuqi had won silver medal at 2018 world championship at Nanjing, China.
