Muzaffarpur : The UGC has extended the period for completing PhD and MPhil course for women across the country. Giving this information, B R Ambedkar Bihar University ( BRABU), Muzaffarpur, VC, Amrendra Narayan Yadav, said that the UGC has extended the period for completing PhD for women by two years and MPhil by one year.
Now, the women can complete PhD in seven years and MPhil in two years against the existing five year and one year respectively, the BRABU VC said. The women doing PhD can also get a 240 day maternity leave. VC Yadav said that the UGC has issued a directive to this effect to all the universities. They can also shift to another institution with credit transfer, he added.
BRABU has not held pre-PhD test for the past four years. On the other hand, hundreds of students were admitted to MPhil course in distance mode by the university without the permission of the Chancellor. Their career remains uncertain. The Administrative Officer, Distance Education Directorate, BRABU, Lallan, was suspended a few months back. MPhil course will now be conducted in regular mode.
