Buxar : Hundreds of women blocked Dumraon-Bikramganj main road under Nawanagar police station in Buxar district on April 4, 2017,  for about four hours paralysing movement of vehicles in protest against sale of liquor despite complete prohibition. They were demanding action against police officials responsible for sale and purchase of liquor under their jurisdiction.

Bihar government had enforced prohibition in the state Bihar on April 5, 2016, but still liquor is being smuggled into the state from Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Haryana and Bengal. Though police frequently seize liquor in large quantity and arrested liquor smugglers but still liquor is brought and sold in different parts of Buxar district. The women alleged that liquor mafias, in connivance with police, are still active in the district. They also alleged that some police personnel, officials and  doctors too consume liquor.
