Ara : Amrita Kumari, wife of Pappu Kesari, was strangulated to death around March 26, 2019, midnight, at village Dagarpur under Narayanpur police station in Bhojpur district allegedly by her in-laws for a bullet motorcycle and Rs 3 lakh cash in dowry. Later, her in-laws hanged the body to the ceiling fan of her to show it as suicide.

A named FIR was lodged by Narayanpur police station against nine persons including Amrita’s husband Pappu Kesari, father-in-law Rajendra Kesari, mother-in-law Geeta Kesari, sisters-in-law: Usha Devi, Gudia Devi, Munni Devi, Priti Kumari, and Pooja Kumari, and grandmother-in-law Manti Devi, on the statement of the father of the deceased. Police have arrested Pappu Kesari, Rajendra Kesari, and Geeta Kesari so far. Later, police brought the body over to Sadar Hospital, Ara, on March 27, 2019, morning, for post-mortem.

SHO, Narayanpur police station, Ajay Chaudhary, quoting the FIR, said that Amrita Kumari, daughter of Murali Kesari of village Dulaur under Jagdishpur police station, was married to Pappu Kesari of village Dagarpur on May 1, 2018. After six months of marriage, Amrita’s in-laws allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh in the name of business while her husband demanded a bullet motorcycle and started torturing her even physically. When their demands were not fulfilled, they allegedly strangulated her to death and hanged the body to the ceiling fan to show it as suicide, the SHO said.
