Bagaha : Shiv Kumari Devi, daughter of Ramdhari Mahto of village Bakhari bazar under Govardhana police station (PS) in West Champaran district, was strangulated to death at her in-laws’ place at village Bairia Barawa under the same police station on November 12, 2017.
Her brother Chhathu Mahto lodged a case with Govardhana police station on November 12 against seven persons including her husband Nagendra Nath, son of Shankar Nath of village Bairia Barawa, in this connection. SDPO, Ramnagar, Manish Kumar said that two of the seven accused of the case had been arrested so far and and further investigation was on.
Chhathu Mahto, in his FIR, said that his sister Shiv Kumari Devi was married to Nagendra Nath, son of Shankar Nath of village Bairia Barawa, in 2014 in which suffient dowry was given. But, ever since her marriage, his sister was being tortured by her in- laws for a bike and whentheir demand was not fulfilled they strangulated her to death on November 12, Chhathu Mahto alleged. On getting such information, he reached his sister’s house and found her body lying on the floor, he said adding he went to police station and lodged a case under Dowry Act against seven persons including her husband. SHO, Govardhana PS, Sudhir Kumar Singh, said that after autopsy, the body was handed over to her parents.
