Woman dies due to labour pain at Sadar hospital, Rohtas DM orders for suspension of doctor

Sasaram: Rohtas DM on Friday directed the Civil Surgeon (CS) to suspend a doctor and a nurse of Sasaram Sadar hospital for dereliction of duty and also asked him to lodge an FIR against a former para-medical staff working as middleman at the hospital.

Sharda Devi, wife of Baidyanath Prasad of Mahadeva under Darigao police station in Rohtas district, was admitted to Sasaram Sadar Hospital after she complained of labour pain on September 14 but neither the doctor nor paramedical staff attended her properly and as a result she died due to labour pain at the Sadar Hospital the same night. After her death, her family members alleged that the doctor and the para-medical staffs were demanding money for delivery and when they did not oblige them, the doctor and the para-medical staff refused to attend the patient.

Rohtas DM Animesh Parashar took the matter seriously and ordered the ADM to inquire into the matter. The DM said that disappearance of doctor and para-medical staffs from the duty room is a serious matter. He said after getting the inquiry report, he ordered the CS to suspend the doctor and paramedical staff who were on duty at that time. The DM also directed the CS to keep a close watch on the brokers active at the hospital and take stern action against them.

CS Naval Korhore Prasad Sinha said that show cause notice has been served on the concerned nurse and all the nurses deputed at the labour room had been removed. He said the doctor and nurse concerned would be suspended at the earliest.
