Ara : A married woman Mala Devi was burnt alive for dowry at Sikaria Tola under Udwantnagar police station in Bhojpur district on September 27, 2018, allegedly by her in-laws who disposed off the body to erase evidence and fled away from the village.
Police brought the body over to Sadar Hospital, Ara for postmortem. A named FIR has been lodged with Udwannagar police station on the statement of the deceased’s father Ramesh Kumar. Police later arrested the husband of the deceased Heera Lal and sent him to jail though other named accused are still evading arrest.
The daughter of Ramesh Kumar of village Laxmanpur under Bihta police station was married to Heera Lal of Sikariya Tola under Udwantnagar police station about 10 years ago and ever since her in-laws and even husband were putting pressure on her to bring more cash as dowry. She had a son and a daughter still her in-laws continued torturing her. When Mala Devi objected, her in-laws sprinkled kerosene oil on her and burnt her alive on September 27. They also shifted her children somewhere else before killing her.
