Patna : West Indies (WI) beat India by 8 wickets in the 1st ODI at M S Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, India, on December 15, 2019, night, with opener Shai Hope (wk) and Shimron Hetmyer hitting brilliant centuries. With this win, WI has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Chasing a target of 289 runs, WI scored 291/2 in 47.5 overs. India had scored 288/8 in 50 overs with Rishabh Pant (wk) scoring 71 and Shreyas Iyer 70.
Hetmyer,22, scored 139 runs in 106 balls with 11 fours 7 sixes, his 5th ODI ton, while Shai Hope, 26, remained unbeaten on 102 in 151 balls with 7 fours and a six, his 8th ODI century, as Indian bowlers proved ineffective. Shivam Dube conceded 68 runs in 7.5 overs without taking any wicket. Mohammad Shami took 1/57 in 9 overs while Deepak Chahar took 1/48 in 10 overs.Hetmyer hit Jadeja for 4 sixes – two each on consecutive balls in his 4th and 10th over. Hetmyer completed his century in 85 balls.
