Patna : West Indies (WI) defeated Afghanistan by 47 runs in the 2nd ODI at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on November 9, 2019, night, to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Afghanistan had won the toss but opted to bowl. Nicholas Pooran (wk) was declared Player of the Match.

Replying to WE’s 247/9 in 50 overs, Afghanistan were all out for 200 in 45.4 overs with fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell taking 3/29 in 9 overs and spinner Hayden Walsh taking 3/36 in 6.4 overs. Spinner Roston Chase also took 3/30 in 10 overs. Rahmat Shah was run out for 33. For Afghanistan, Najibullah Zadran scored 56 in 66 balls with 7 fours and a six while Mohammad Nabi scored 32. Najibullah and Nabi added 68 runs for the 6th wicket. Opener Hazratullah Zazai scored 23 while captain Rashid Khan made 2.

Earlier, batting first, WI openers Shai Hope and Evin Lewis added 98 runs for the first wicket. Hope fell to spinner Rashid Khan for 43 in 77 balls with 5 fours while Lewis fell to Javed Ahmadi for 54 in 75 balls with 6 fours and a six. Nicholas Pooran (wk) made 67 in 50 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. He fell to Naveen-ul-Haq. Shimron Hetmyer made 34 in 43 balls with 2 fours and a six. Naveen-ul-Haq took 3/60 in 9 overs.
