Patna : Seven-time champion Serena Williams, 38, USA, crashed out of Australian Open (AO) 2020  losing to World No 29 Qiang Wang, China, the 27th seed, the 8th seed, in third round in a three-set thriller at Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on January 24, 2020. World No 9 Serena Williams,  who had last won AO title in 2017, was bidding for record equalling 24th Grand Slam title.

Wang, 28, stunned Serena  6-4, 6-7, 7-5 to enter the fourth round of Australian Open. Wang won 3 break points in the match to 1 by Serena. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Wang won 75 service points to 72 by winner of 23 Grand Slam titles Serena. The American though fired 8 Aces in the match to 2 by the Chinese. Serena committed 4 double faults to 1 by Wang.

Wang will face World No 78 Ons Jabeur, 25, Tunisia,  in fourth round on January 26, 2020. Wang had reached quarter-finals of US Open in 2019.
