Ara : Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, has only 11 Urdu teachers posted in four constituent colleges even as it has 71 colleges including 17 constituent colleges under it. As a result, the  students are not taking interest in getting themselves admitted in this department and at present only 177 including 70 girl students are reading Urdu in the colleges under the VKSU.

Prof Zamil Akhtar, Head of Department, Urdu, said the Urdu department is running without any basic facility. He said that no book has been purchased since 2007 and the students are facing a lot of problems in continuing their study in the absence of books in the library and faculty crunch.

Prof Akhtar said that Urdu and Persian departments of the H D Jain College, Ara, was so good in the past that people from almost every corner of the country and even from abroad came here to discuss  problems related to Urdu and Persian languages with Prof Ram Prasad Ji better known as ‘master sahib’. He stated that Prof Hafeez Banarai, a well known Urdu poet, was posted at Maharaja College but after his retirement, the Urdu department has remained neglected there. He said Urdu and Persian departments gradually lost their glory after opening of the VKSU in 1992.

He said the Urdu department was opened in the VKSU in 1997 and seven posts of teachers are sanctioned but only three are working at present and a fourth grade employee has been arranged through outsourcing.

Vice-Chancellor-in-charge, VKSU, Nand Kishor Sah said that process of appointment of teachers in the Urdu and Persian departments is going on and added that situation will soon improve.
