Bagaha : Renewed activities of Maoists in Bagaha police district on Indo-Nepal border is causing concern to the local administration. They were lying low for almost a decade. But, the Maoists have now  undertaken a leaflet distribution and pasting campaign in the bordering areas in a bid to regain their lost ground.

The move by the Maoists to reorganise and extend their area of influence has come as a disturbing development for the police authorities in the light of definite intelligence report about their activities. The 21st battalion of SSB Bagaha and Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve (VTR) staff, who move in forest areas, and local people suggest that the Maoists activities had increased in the last one year.

The murder of a former Mukhiya of Gonauli panchayat under Valmikinagar police station Manoj Singh allegedly by Maoists on August 10, 2018, night, has triggered panic among the people residing in and around VTR. The incident reminded them of killings of Bilar Yadav, Bhola Mian and Bharat Yadav of Semarahani under Gobardhana police station, Bachcha Singh of Sunderpur, Indrasan Sah and Kisun Sah of Barawakhurd under Laukaria police station, Vijay Singh and Udaybhan Singh of Ratapurwa under Semera police station, by naxalites a decade back.

Semarahani police picket along with 15 arms had been looted and newly constructed Gobardhana police station and house of Bachcha Singh, Mukhiya of Bairagi Sonabarsa panchayat, had also been blown up by planting dynamite sticks by the naxalites, who also blew up rail track between Khairpokhara- Bhairoganj railway stations on Narkatiagange-Gorakhpur rail section under Samastipur Division of East Central Railways (ECR) about a decade back.

Bagaha SP Arbind Kumar Gupta with force is camping at Valmikinagar to bring the situation back to normal in the area. Police patrolling and raids in the areas have been intensified to arrest the culprits. A maoists leaflet was found pasted on the wall of deceased Manoj Singh’s house.
