Ara : Dozens of inmates of girls’ hostel on the campus of Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, led by their VKSU students’ union president Amit Kumar and other student leaders sat on indefinite dharana and fast unto death in front of the office of the Pro Vice Chancellor (PVC), VKSU, Nand Kishor Sah on July 4, 2018, to press their 12 point charter of demands.
They were protesting non-supply food to the inmates of girls’ hostel for the last two days and delay in publication of pending result of BA part II after rectification. The girls were also demanding suspension of Deputy Superintendent, Caretaker and Incharge, girls hostel. The agitating students raised slogans against university officials for their indifferent attitude towards the problems facing the students. The university administration called police force and the entire university turned into police camp.
VKSU Students Union president Amit Kumar said that the students had a talk with the PVC, VKSU, regarding their demands but to no avail. He said the inmates of girls’ hostel are getting their meals from outside as the mess of the hostel was closed for the last two days. He further said that the university had failed to publish pending results of BA part II session 2015-2018 after rectification causing a lot of problems to students.
Hostel superintendent said that girl students were given two options – either they manage mess themselves or the mess facility would be provided through contractor.
PVC said that the girl students have to manage their mess themselves. The university administration is responsible for maintenance of hostel, basic amenities like electricity, drinking water, security but not for their food. Reacting at this, Amit Kumar said that the statement of the PVC and the hostel superintendent is shameful and added that they would continue their agitation.
