Gopalganj: Refusal by the doctors of Gopalganj Sadar Hospital to carry out autopsy of Abhimanyu Sharma, owner of a cellphone shop, led to vandalism on the hospital premises for the second consecutive day on Friday. The deceased’s family members took away the body as there was no cop on the hospital premises.
It may be mentioned here that Sharma was stabbed by some persons at Sasamusa Bazaar under Kuchaikot police station late on October 6 evening. He was rushed to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries as the doctors there had gone on strike.
On Friday morning, the deceased’s family members urged the hospital employees to perform autopsy of the body. As the doctors were on strike, autopsy was not carried out. Agitated over it, the family members forcibly took away the body. Though a chowkidar on duty at the hospital tried to stop them, the family members pushed him aside and took away the body on an ambulance.
Later, they blocked the national highway at Sasamusa with the body for over five hours. On getting information, CO Amit Ranjan, BDO Dristi Pathak and local SHO Mahendra Kumar reached the spot and pacified the people, who later lifted the blockade. Police detained four persons in this connection.
On getting information, Civil Surgeon Dr. Madheshwar Prasad, deputy superintendent Dr P C Prabhat, Dr Amar Kumar, Dr Quaisar Javed, Dr Mithilesh Kumar and Dr PC Sinha reached the hospital premises. Dr Prabhat complained that the district administration was not providing adequate security on hospital premises.
