Patna : Utkarsh, son of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi ( SuMo), married Kolkata based Chartered Accountant Yamini during day time on December 3, 2017, at Bihar Veterinary College, Patna, ground,  in the presence of many Union Ministers, Governors, chief ministers of Haryana and Jharkhand and a large number of politicians and dignitaries. Utkarsh works in private sector.

Union Ministers:  Arun Jaitley, Ananth Kumar, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Ram Vilas Paswan, Dharmendra Pradhan, Giriraj Singh, Bihar Governor Satya Pal Mallik, Goa Governor Mridula Sinha, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das and State BJP chief Nityanand Rai, were among those present at the ceremony.

RJD Chief Lalu Prasad was also also present though a threat by his son and Mahua MLA Tej Pratap Yadav, a former minister, to disrupt the function had led to a change in the venue. Tej Pratap had later retracted his statement. Lalu greeted Modi with a warm handshake before taking a seat beside Union Minister Giriraj Singh.

The wedding was held during the daytime without any ornate arrangements, musical bands or feasts. The guests were requested not to bring gifts to the wedding and were handed over a packet containing four laddoos. Utkarsh was dressed in a simple white khadi kurta, pyjama and a maroon waistcoat while the bride wore a red sari.

The Bihar Veterinary College ground was full of banners and hoardings carrying slogans against dowry and child marriage. A stall was set up on the ground to hand out forms that urged people to take a pledge against dowry and child marriage. At another stall, pamphlets urging people to donate their eyes and other organs were distributed among the guests.
