Giridih: Two passenger of  van died and 8 others injured four of  them seriously when it had a head on collision with a speeding truck near village Gaida on National Highway – 2 (GT Road) under Bagodar police station in Giridih district in Jharkhand late on Wednesday evening.   

Four  of the eight passengers, who sustained serious injuries, were referred to Hazaribagh while the remaining injured were admitted tp local Community Health Centre (CHC). The deceased were identified as Rajesh Tiwari (32) of village Atka under Bagodar PS in Giridih and Raju Manjhi (36) of village Patirdih under Gorhar PS in  Hazaribagh district. The incident took place  around 11 pm when the van carrying about a dozen passengers was returning from Churchu village under Mandu PS in  Hazaribagh after participating in a tilak ceremony, police said.

“  After getting information, a team of local police visited the place of occurrence nd looked into the matter. They took the injured to Bagodar based CHC. While those receiving major injuries were  referred to Hazaribagh others were  admitted to CHC at Bagodar,” said Bagodar BDO, Priti Kisku, who visited the place of occurrence on Thursday morning and inquired into the matter.

“According to the eyewitnesses and the injured, it was a head on collision that occurred due to the wrong driving of the heavy vehicle. While Tiwari, driver of the passenger van, died on the spot, another succumbed to his injuries at the CHC. The culprits managed to escape from the spot,” said  Bagodar PS incharge Sri Niwas Kumar.

“ We have seen several such incidents between Bagodar and  Dumri and other places in Giridih and Dhanad districts of Jharkhand on the GT Road but the authorities concerned are yet to take any preventive action,”, said former Bagodar MLA Binod Kumar, who along with his supporters including the Zila Parishad member Punam Mahto, Sandeep Jaiswal and others visited the spot. A case was lodged with Bagodar PS in this regard and the dead bodies were brought to Giridih Sadar hospital for post-mortem.
