Gopalganj: Civil Surgeon, Gopalganj, Dr Madheshwar Prasad on Tuesday confirmed that two children-brother and sister – died due to Mumps (galphulli) at village Shamdasbagahi on Sunday.

Dr Prasad, who reached the village, met the family members of the two children and inquired about the symptoms of their disease .He said that chances of Meningitis increases if one suffers from Mumps. Both the children were sleeping on the roof of their houses for the past few days and later suffered from high fever, the CS said adding that though both the children were sent for better medical treatment, they died mid-way.

Regarding the death of one Ramawati Kuer on Sunday, Dr Prasad claimed that she was suffering from Tuberculosis and died due to it.The CS said that medical team would keep a close watch on  the affected village for next 10 days and immunize the kids. Besides it, DDT would be sprayed in the village, he added.

It may be recalled that five year old Sita Kumari, daughter of Sushil Bhagat of Sham Das Bagahi village, suffered from high fever and after shivering for 15 hours she died. Later, her brother Pramod Kumar (6) also died due to similar symptoms.

On getting information, Dr Prasad constituted a team and reached Shamdasbagahi village along with Dr Chandrashekhar, Dr Rajesh and manager Manoj Kumar. As the medical team was engaged in its works, a woman Ramawati Kuer (45) died due to some disease on Monday afternoon triggering panic among the villagers. Kuer also complained of high fever.
