Nawada: Two female bootleggers including a widowlate late  were arrested from Govindpur in a police raid conducted on late Tuesday and a huge quantity of raw materials used for making illicit liquor seized from their possession. According to Nawada SP Vikas Dev Burman, the two culprits have been identified as widow Rekha Devi, wife of late Sikandar Chaudhry, and Basanti Devi, wife of Bhattu Chaudhry. Around 300 kg of mahua stored in several cans, besides 8 liters of distilled liquor was recovered from their houses.

The women admitted that distilling of illicit liquor was their family tradition and a source of additional income. When informed that total prohibition has been enforced in the state, they feigned ignorance. An FIR has been registered against the two under the Excise Amendment Act, 2016.
