Patna : World No 7 and 6th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 21, Greece, stunned defending champion and World No 1 Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, in a three-set thriller in the quarter-finals to advance to the semi-finals of Rolex Shanghai Masters, an ATP World Tour 1,000 points event, at Shanghai, China, on October 11, 2019. Djokovic thus failed to defend his 1,000 points won in 2018 as the champion though he won 180 points for reaching the QFs this year.
Tsitsipas edged past top seed Djokovic 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the QFs in 2 hr 2 minutes battling back from one set down. Tsitsipas hammered 11 Aces in the match to 8 by the World No 1 Djokovic. The Greek won 2 break points to 1 by the Serbia. Both the players won 3 games each in a row. Tsitsipas will face World No 4 and 3rd seed Daniil Medbedev, 23, Russia, in the SFs on October 12, 2019.
With this win Tsitsipas has qualified for 2019 Nitto ATP finals at London in November 2019. He has won 2 ATP Tour titles this year. He had defeated World No 2 Rafael Nadal, Spain, in semi-finals of Madrid Open in 2019.
