Patna : Fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 22, Greece, 12th seed Denis Shapovalov, 21, Canada, 20th seed Pablo Carreno Busta, 29, Spain, and 27th seed Borna Coric, 23, Croatia, entered men’s singles 3rd round of US Open tennis tournament at New York City, New York, USA, on September 3, 2020.

Tsitsipas beat Maxime Cressy, 23, USA, in tough contest 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 in second round outlasting his opponent’s 21 Aces. Tsitsipas also fired 10 Aces in the match. But, the more important thing was he won two break points. Although Cressy hammered 21 Aces, he also committed 10 double faults to 6 by the Greek. Tsitsipas also won 3 games in a row in the match. The Greek will face Borna Coric in third round.

Coric edged past Juan Ignacio Londero, 27, Argentina, in a five-set marathon 7-5, 4-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 to enter the third round. Coric won 8 break points in the match to 5 by the Argentine.  Coric hammered 15 Aces in the match to 5 by Londero.

Shapovaliv beat Kwon Soon-Woo, 22, South Korea, in four-sets 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. The Canadian fired 20 Aces in the match to just 2 by Kwon. Shapovalov also won 5 break points in the match to one by the South Korean. Shapovalov committed 6 double faults in the match to 4 by Kwon. Shapovalov will face 19th seed Taylor Fritz, USA, in 3rd round.

Busta brushed aside Mitchell Krueger, 26, USA, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 winning 7 break points to enter the third round. Busta, who won 7 games in a row in the match, will face Ricardas Berankis, Lithuania, 30, in third round. Berankis beat Steve Johnson, USA, 7-5, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 in second round. Both Berankis and Johnson hammered 13 Aces each in the match.
