Bagaha: Use of substandard weights and measure instruments by a large number of traders in Bagaha sub-division of West Champaran district is an open secret yet the weights and measure department remains unconcerned. The victims are the consumers who are being cheated regularly by the shopkeepers and roadside vendors specially in the rural areas of the district allegedly in connivance with some employees of the department.

The vendors mostly those selling perishable items like vegetables, fruits, meat and fish in the crowded markets located in areas like Valmikinagar, Champapur, Gonauli, Harnatand, Sauraha, Chiutaha, Bherihari, Nautanawa, Chautarawa, Patilar, Bakhari Mahubani, Dahawa, Thorhi, Muradih, Madanpur, Naurangia, Bhitaha and Thakaraha are allegedly using sub-standard weights and measure tools and cheating buyers by weighing far less quantity of any commodity.
