Munger: Laying of railway tracks on the by-lane under construction between Daulatpur and Ashikpur near Jamalpur in Munger district is unlikely to be completed by June 30, the deadline set for it, according to deputy chief construction engineer, railways,  Jitendra Kumar.

Kumar on Tuesday said that out of 700 metres, tracks have been laid on only 500 metres and the remaining distance of 200 metres was yet to be covered. June 30 was fixed for its completion by the construction agency but it could not be done, he said. The railways are apprehensive because the monsoon has set in and filling up the lane by soil might be hampered during rain. The construction agency has been directed by the railway construction engineer to complete the work by July 15 at any cost so that rail tracks could be linked with the original Bariarpur- Jamalpur railway line passing through the tunnel.

This 700 metre long rail track link has been necessitated for direct run of the trains coming from Bhagalpur side on the Loop lines without touching Jamalpur railway station and vice versa towards the newly established Munger station.        After completion of the link track, railways are proposing to divert some of the long distance trains via Munger bridge station  instead of Kiul at least for the north-east zone of the Indian railways. This would reduce distance of train journey considerably and save diesel to a great extent, said a senior railway officer.
