Muzaffarpur : The Tirhut Canal embankment breached at village Lalse under Muroul block in Muzaffarpur district at 11 pm on August 24, 2017, inundating several villages under Sakra and Muroul blocks in the district. The flood water is also posing threat to NH 28.

The water of river Budhi Gandak has already entered Rambagh, Khadi Bhandar and Bela areas of Muzaffarpur town besides BMP 6 campus. Now the flood water is fast entering low lying areas of Muzaffarpur town, the headquarters of Tirhut Division in North Bihar. It has already entered several wards of the town.

The Budhi Gandak had breached Rajbar embankment under Musahari block five days back and the flood water entered Litchi Research Centre, Musahari, and CRPF camp at Jhapaha in the district. Musahari, Meenapur, Muroul and Sakra blocks of the district are reeling under the flood, which has so far claimed eight lives besides damaging standing crops.

The flood has so far claimed 379 lives in 19 districts of Bihar including 80 in Araria district alone.
