Patna : World N 50 Frances Tiafoe, 23, USA, upset 5th seed Andrey Rublev, 23, Russian, in a five-set thriller in 3rd round of US Open on September 4, 2021,  morning, to move into Round of 16 of the tournament. Tiafoe edged past World No 7 Rublev 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 in 3rd round at Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York, USA, coming from behind.

Rublev hammered 25 Aces during the match to 24 by Tiafoe. The American committed 8 double faults to 7 by the Russian. Tiafoe though won 5 break points during the match to 4 by Rublev. The American also won 5 games in a row to 4 by the Russian. Tiafoe, in all, won 170 points during the match to 168 points by Rublev. Tiafoe won 118 service points to 92 by the Russian. Tiafoe will face 12th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, 21, Canada, in 4th round on September 5, 2021.

World No 15 Aliassime beat 18th seed Roberto Bautista Agut, 33, Spain, in a five-set marathon 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3 in 3rd round hammering 27 Aces during the match. Agut served only 2 Aces in the match. Aliassime though committed 8 double faults in the match to 3 by the Spaniard. The Canadian won 4 break points in the match to 3 by Agut. Both the players won 3 games each in a row during the match. Aliassime , in all, won 159 points in the match to 146 points by World No 21 Agut.
